Experiencing Mandates: Towards A Hybrid Account

چکیده
In this paper I focus on a subset of experiences in which action-properties are presented—namely, those objects our perceptual surroundings or environment ‘demand’ that certain actions be carried out, as experienced mandates (EMs). The critical part the argues complex contents view, builds all distinctiveness such into their content, is unsatisfactory. As an alternative, argue EMs involve bodily potentiation, best understood terms felt action readiness. then outline hybrid account, combines content-based features with action-readiness.

Perceiving and Experiencing Fictional Characters: An Integrative Account
Fictional characters (FCs) and mediated persons in literature, theater, film, art, TV, and digital media fulfil basic psychological functions, although the processes involved remain unspecified. Departing from identification and empathy hypotheses, a new context-sensitive model draws upon similarity studies, empirical aesthetics, persuasion, emotion and social psychology. The PEFiC-model (Perce...
متن کاملTowards a Unified Account of Adjuncts
We present an analysis of adjuncts which, while based on the traditional binary adjunction schema, accommodates the phenomena that motivate the alternative Adjunct-as-Complement approach, such as adjunct extraction and case marking. The key idea is to enable the syntactic head (modifiee) to select for its modifier (adjunct) via the new valence feature dedicated for adjuncts, while leaving its v...
متن کاملTowards a distributed account of conceptual knowledge.
How is conceptual knowledge organized and represented? Are domains (such as living things) and categories (such as tools, fruit) represented explicitly or can domain and category structure emerge out of a distributed system? Taken at face value, evidence from brain-damaged patients and neuroimaging studies suggests that conceptual knowledge is explicitly structured in independent content-based ...
متن کاملTowards a Categorical Account of Conditional Probability
This paper presents a categorical account of conditional probability, covering both the classical and the quantum case. Classical conditional probabilities are expressed as a certain “triangle-fill-in” condition, connecting marginal and joint probabilities, in the Kleisli category of the distribution monad. The conditional probabilities are induced by a map together with a predicate (the condit...
متن کاملTowards a Formal Account of Identity Criteria
Identity criteria are used to confer ontological respectability: Only entities with clearly determined identity criteria are ontologically acceptable. From a logical point of view, identity criteria should mirror the identity relation in being reflexive, symmetrical, and transitive. However, this logical constraint is only rarely met. More precisely, in some cases, the relation representing the...
